But Sasha remains committed to staying in touch with her fans. Before leaving for the 2010 U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash., Sasha compiled and answered a list of questions she is frequently asked by her fans.
How old were you when you began skating?
Sometimes it seems like I have been skating for my entire life. But I actually got my start when I was 7-years-old. My friend took me skating for the first time. I really loved it so my parents put me in lessons. I took a couple group classes a week until I was 10 years old, that's when I started to really get into skating and started taking skating more seriously.
Where do you practice?
I actually train throughout Southern California at several different rinks. Sometimes I even skate in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., because skating is so popular here in Orange County, and our rinks can be crowded from time to time.
When are you competing again?
I just competed at the 2010 U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash. I planned on competing at Trophee Eric Bompard and Skate America in 2009 but because of an injury, I had to withdraw. I was very disappointed about that.
What is your favorite competition?
I have skated at plenty of events throughout my career but nothing compares to skating at the Olympics. It's just incredible. I'm really hoping to make the 2010 U.S. Olympic team.
Are you going to skate near me anytime soon?
One of my favorite things about skating is that it has brought me to a lot of amazing places in the United States and in the world. Sometimes I don't even know where it's going to bring me next. For my schedule, check out my skating page. I'm skating with the 2010 Stars on Ice tour in April and May.
Who designs your costumes?
I design my costumes with my dressmaker Jan Longmire. The inspiration comes from a lot of places including bridal and fashion magazines. I think the first dress I designed was for my "Carmen" program when I was a juvenile.
What do you do when you're not skating?
One thing that I have always loved to do is bake. More recently, I've also gotten into acting. I was in the indie film Moondance Alexander and also appeared in Blades of Glory. I also enjoy yoga and pilates.
Can I have your autograph?
I would love to sign something for you. Please send the item to the address listed above along with a self-addressed stamped envelope. I'll do my best to get it back to you.
